Race for a Cure 2011!!!

Every year a group consisting of my family and some family friends get together and walk in the Race for a Cure in honor of my grandmother, Ruby Slayden, and our family friend's mother, Jo Penn. Our team is called Jo and Ruby's Groovy Gang! We start off the celebration by meeting the weekned before the race to make bracelets and sometimes team shirts, though this year we had shirts made and they turned out pretty cute! On the day of the race we usually get up pretty early and drive to the dart rail station and take the rail to the race. This saves us time and the hassel of fighting traffic for a parking spot. After we walk in the race we stay and watch the survivor parade, and then the best part of the whole annual event is where we go for lunch after. We walk through North Park Mall and across the street to the Cheesecake Factory!!!!. We usually get there around 10:30 and have to wait for them to open at 11:00. The line usually starts to form around 10:30 so we have been pretty lucky to be toward the front of the line every year! The food is so good , but the cheesecake is my favorite part! This year I got the special Hershey's Chocolate Cheesecake that donated a quarter of the proceeds to  hungry kids...so I not only got to eat yummy cheesecake I was doing it all for the kids!!!! It made me feel better about it at least. Kody got to join us this year since he didn't have to go to football! It was so fun having him get to join us in this special  event! I really enjoyed having him there with me! We had a small group thsi year but everyone was ther in spirit I'm sure. I haven't missed a year yet,  and Rhett has already started in the tradition with me! I sure wish he could have met my Grandma, but I know she and my Uncle Mike are watching over us proudly! She was a special lady, and this is a way we can remember her together and Rhett can get to know her through this event! I can't wait till next year when he will get to experience it in person with us!

  1. Good for you for walking!! Keep exercising even when you are tired. It really helps make it easier to get back in the groove after you have the baby!!
